How long since you just STOPPED?

I'm coming from the very privileged position of being on holidays. After the last two years, the highs, the lows, the uncertainties, and the unknown of what is going to happen, as a family we decided to prioritise a family holiday we rescheduled 3 times.

There was all the reasons not too:

  • wrong time of year
  • all the christmas parties
  • it's pretty selfish to have this amount of time off.
  • who will see all my patients
  • will my staff be ok
  • good mum's don't take their kids away from their friends for so long leading up to christmas
  • will they get the magic of Christmas in a campervan

But in light of all of this, we decided as a family that we really needed some time away. 

Yes there's been planning, and organising and booking. And of course in the week before we left,  we had a major rain event causing a big amount of water and cleaning and no washing drying... all the mum things!

Stopping, and stepping away, is teaching me a few things!

Affirmations & Power

The power resides inside of you... tell yourself how awesome you are!

Did you know that there is research behind the power of affirmations.

Basically, an affirmation is positive phrases or statements used to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts.

Kinda like talking to yourself like you would your best friend.

They work if you regularly practice them, which is why I really love to put them beside my mirror and inside my phone case.

I put them wherever I know I am going to see them.

Then I stop.

I breathe.

I say it out loud (or in my head if it's a bit weird).

I repeat it again.

I think about it.

I move on with what I was doing.

Love Yourself!

How long since you asked yourself how you want to love YOU?

You might feel it a bit weird to be thinking about how to love ourselves when we are in the busy season. I know.

But what if I told you that this inner love of yourself is exactly what will help you shape your health moving forward. Yes, I am a health practitioner, but over the last two years particularly, I am seeing more and more busy working mum's having worse health.

What does that look like?

Rubbish sleep

Unknown health challenges

Short tether

Lack of movement

Pain in places they wouldn't normally have it

Reaching for the sugar and coffee to get through the day

Weight gain

Increased stress

You guys get the picture, it's just not great!

What if I told you, that listening to your inner self and learning how to love yourself can be the first step towards turning that health around.

Burnout + Christmas

I woke up exhausted... here's what I did! 

You may have seen my post on the weekend, all about how I felt like I woke on Sunday morning in full exhaustion land. Like I’m talking my legs and body felt like lead and I was wading through mud. I didn’t want to open my eyes, and I was craving stillness and softness in my day.

I really listened to my body, and have heard it tell me it feels dehydrated, and like it’s in full sleep debt…. Yet I drink a lot of water and sleep 8 hours a night. What this really means… well it means that I have mentally been doing too much, not honouring my rest cycles as they show up. 

I’m sure that some of you would have had this feeling before, like you are doing all the things and it isn’t providing you with all of the health that you are expecting. With a New Year around the Corner... I've had a BIG Think!

First up... I want to say THANKYOU to all of you that may have participated in voting for me in our local Chamber of Commerce & Industry Awards. On the weekend I was awarded the Business Leader Award, as well as my Chiropractic practice won the Health & Wellness Award. I am beyond proud of this! 

Over the last few weeks I've been percolating hard on 2022.

I really want to serve more mum's to bring back both HEALTH & HEART to their motherhood experience.

To honour themselves, and to know how to put themselves first without turning into a raging narcissist. 

2022 is going to bring some massive events and changes for me and mothers!

Your Brain Loves YOU!

Isn't it a wonderful week to have a wonderful week. I've been working hard on some behind the scenes stuff and getting ready for the weekend. I'm so excited to be immersing with an intimate group of mum's all about their health & heart!

I spoke on my podcast this week all about dreaming as a mother. How we often dream of what we think our motherhood will be like before we have kids.

But then, as we traverse our motherhood journey, we often forget to dream of who we are in the motherhood. What would we love to do? What is important to us? What aligns to our innermost dreams and desires. 

This is important for our souls, but it's also really important for our work. You see our brain loves it when we are doing activities that align with our soul.

It operates in a higher state of calm when we are doing things that are important to us. It sends calm signals to our stress spots in our brain. It allows us to take that big deep breath that aligns us internally.

Today was a great day... I've done lots of small things.

Do you ever have those days where you wake up, and you're like, yep, I am totally going to do X, Y and Z... and then as the day really begins you throw all of that out the window?

That was me today. 

My to do list involved a lot of work stuff, but by the time the kids got picked up to go to school (the best thing about this is my SIL takes the kids for me on a wednesday so I can have a true home day, just like I take hers on a Monday), my body had different ideas.

I don't own a dryer - not because I don't want one, but I have no space, and it's been crazy weather, so I had to go to the laundromat. So I decided, laundromat, dog walk for the win. 

Then vacuum the car, have a coffee, do a mammoth food shop. I've make raw chocolate and choc brownies (must be a full moon I reckon), and only sat down to do my 'work' at about 1pm.

Burnt Out, Tired & Grumpy!

I know I get to this time of year and I start to think about all the things that I supposedly have to do, and how I absolutely am not going to be able to do them all.

The roundabout of creating a life that is calm and thoughtful and mindful, combined with not disappointing anybody and ticking all the boxes... it makes me want to scream. 

Our brain and our neurology are wonderful things. They have this beautiful ability to pick up on a feeling, relate it back to something from our past, and we respond in the same way. 

When was the time you were so overwhelmed you had a very big emotional response? 

Do you feel this at times when maybe it doesn't warrant it? When you would otherwise just need a sit down and a chat to yourself, and find an easy solution? 

This is your stress response hijacking your life. No body wants that in their world.

Magnificent Mama Selfish is the New Black!

I'm not sure if it was just my experience growing up, or if this is more of an Australia or world wide phenomena - but being selfish is seen as one of the biggest sins there is.

I mean, I know that we are supposed to be helpful, and not selfish in a narcissistic kinda way (coz that doesn't bode well for many), but the perception that all selfish behaviour is bad is probably not serving the mother community.

Martyrdom - putting yourself last so you can make sure that everyone around you is A-OK, is the most frequently supported version of who we 'should be' in society. The good mother complex tells us that everyone else is more worthy of our time before we are. 

When we move into matrescence, that glorious shift from womanhood to motherhood, one of the best components of this spiritual journey is the one where we have to learn how to nurture ourselves so we can best nurture others.

Magnificent Mama Busy Isn't a Verb!

Hello you super busy Mama! 

I got you and I see your life. It's hectic AF.

You have a million tabs open and you are trying to do all of the things for all of the people.

And maybe you have forgotten a little bit about doing it for yourself.

As working mum's, I really wanted to jump in here and share some love about busy.

You see, our beautiful brain thrives on things changing.

In fact, it loves it when we infuse different things into our day.

Stillness and Movement
Productiveness and Chill
Busy and Calm
Social time and Work Time
Hard Exercise and Gentle Exercise
Water and Wine (jokes, obvs )

Whats interesting amongst this is that when we continuously exist in one of these frameworks, an imbalance occurs, and it can lead to burnout, overwhelm, fatigue, anger, frustration... you get the picture.

In our super busy worlds, we often see the busy as a superpower. I am so great and can get so much shit done because I am a super mum.
